WHO WE ARE
UNSEEN Film Festival is a Los Angeles–based international film festival operating through curated monthly competitions that culminate in an annual showcase. The festival is dedicated to films that were overlooked, rejected, or never given the opportunity to be seen.
Each month, UNSEEN selects a focused group of outstanding films from international submissions. Monthly selections are considered for official recognitions and may qualify for inclusion in the festival’s annual showcase, alongside a curated non-competitive section.
UNSEEN brings together filmmakers, artists, and audiences in Los Angeles through intimate screenings and conversations centered on craft, authorship, and the responsibility of storytelling—creating a space where emerging voices meet experienced practitioners outside traditional industry hierarchies.
-
UNSEEN hosts monthly selection rounds, open to filmmakers worldwide. Submissions are evaluated on artistic integrity, visual language, and emotional truth rather than market trends or prestige.
Monthly winners and recognitions are considered for:
Annual showcase screenings
Festival-level awards and honors
Special curated programs
Not all selected films are screened monthly; screenings are programmed intentionally to preserve quality and focus.
-
UNSEEN prioritizes films that exist outside conventional systems of validation, including:
First or early works by filmmakers
Projects made without institutional backing
Diaspora and underrepresented narratives
Experimental or formally restrained cinema
All genres and formats are welcomed, including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental works.
-
As a Los Angeles–based festival, UNSEEN engages a diverse community of filmmakers, cinematographers, performers, and visual artists. Awards are named in recognition of artistic legacies that embody discipline, visual intelligence, and cultural impact.
Recognitions are curated and may vary by month and by annual edition.
-
UNSEEN actively supports first-time and emerging filmmakers. Debut films are welcomed, and prior rejection by other festivals is not a barrier to selection.
There are no premiere requirements.
-
UNSEEN seeks independent films from all countries, cultures, and backgrounds, with particular attention to voices traditionally underrepresented in the global film industry. Low- or no-budget productions are fully welcomed.
ANNUAL LOS ANGELES SHOWCASE
Each year, UNSEEN presents an annual showcase in Los Angeles, featuring a curated selection of films drawn from the monthly competitions. The showcase brings together filmmakers and audiences for focused screenings and conversations in an intimate setting.
